Art to me is an anecdote of the spirit, and the only means of making concrete the purpose of its varied quickness and stillness- Mark Rothko
I have often discussed with a lot of my colleagues as to what is art? And the discussion leads to some really off topic tangents. When questioned about what is a design process, I had so much to say, because day in and out life is a design process. I believe that its really about that first spark, that idea that will motivate a person to start the thought process. Lets take for example the other day when I met a friend who wanted to make a chair in his balcony but didn’t have material to build one. For a minute my mind scanned the place and putting pieces of bricks and a few tiles together we made a chair. Now its not that an artistic process has only to do with creating art pieces. What I feel is that it is much beyond that, its more about the beautiful process of creating or doing something spectacular. There are other ways to what I feel is an artistic process. There are times when it so happens that you take learnings from A specific incident and use it in B .I feel that there is an overall intellectual aspect to this process. Art is the ability to channelize your thoughts into another medium other than keeping it in your mind. The form can be anything and its process can be varied. After a year in a design college I would like to share my atistic process. I first start of by creating a mind map of all the elements I would like to use nd then place then into my final output using iterations of various layouts. Then I choose the most aesthetically pleasing layout and then execute the artwork. But then isn’t this all subjective. Mark Rothko, Pollock, Picasso every famous artist had a different artistic process. It finally comes down to how much one has understood his brain, his thought process. Many people believe that indulging in ‘Delightful things’ and escalating into a psychedelic state of mind is part of an artistic process but its not true. I believe that its better to have a normally functioning mind so as to have more efficient thinking and process. If one were to do drugs then only to open ones mind, kind of like opening ones mind to the gate of imagination.
Here is a small video that would explain the above so very well.
